Programming the Internet with Widgets and RSS
A widget is an easily copied block of text. When the text is placed on
your website or blog the widget should display something or do
something. Examples of widgets are YouTube embeds, ReverbNation music
players, WeatherUnderground current conditions or forecasts, etc.
An
RSS feed is a way to syndicate website content. As the website is
updated the RSS feed is automatically updated. A common use for RSS
feeds is to add them to your newsreader. RSS feeds can also be used to
display the website content with a widget. At relatedtogeeks.com I use a
web service, rss2html, to widgetize the RSS feeds from out Tumblr blog,
our Photos pages, and our Links page.
